Texture from Mayang's Textures
Be “Sine Cera” (Sincere)
Sincere.
The word comes from a Latin word “sine cera” meaning “without wax”.  In the original Greek it means “sun-tested”.
In Bible times merchants sold very fine porcelain that was greatly valued and therefore very expensive.  Sometimes when it was fired in the kiln, tiny cracks would appear. Dishonest merchants would smear pearly white wax over these cracks, which would pass for unblemished porcelain – unless it was held up to the light of the sun.  Honest merchants marked their wares “sine cera” – “without wax”.
That is a picture of genuine sincerity.
No sham, no hypocrisy, no hidden cracks to be covered over.
Be Sine Cera.
Be on the inside, what you are on the outside, be real, be truthful, and be honest.
People will respect you for that, even if they differ with you.
Remember Today: BE SINCERE!

old-world-map
If there were a list of all the stuff you want, want to do, or dream of, how long would that list be?
Would it begin with something you have already achieved?
Would it end with “die with a smile on my face?”
Where would this list take you?  To the ends of the Earth, or to the deepest reaches of a man’s soul where courage and introspect reside?
When I look at the men and women who have accomplished great feats and have seen
magnificent things, I wonder what makes them different than me?
They are in better shape, no doubt…well, not exactly.
They have money; you must to have money to realize dreams, right?  No.
Then it has to be someone who has no desire to have a family or live the American dream, right?  Not in the least.
The difference between one like me and those merry souls who have seen the dark and lived to tell the light is a pen, a calendar, and a map.
They just do it.  They plan it.  They make it happen.  They put it on paper and take the necessary steps to achieve it.
So you want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro…then put it on the calendar!  You want to meet the Dalai Lama?  Then put the pieces together to do it.  You want to hike across the border of Pakistan and Iraq, you may be insane.
The only difference between those whose life we desire and those who lead lives of quiet desperation is ACTION.
I suspect it all comes back to desire.  Do we desire adventure more than we desire other things, such as comfort and convenience?  I can give you comfort and convenience, just stop by Best Buy and hit the Lazy boy showroom on the way home.  I have convenience. I can access the Internet from my blue ray player.  The reality is desire must exist.  It is the single most important trait a man can have.  First, a desire for the one True and Living God.  Second a desire for others.  Last, the desire to improve himself to the honor and glory of God.
What could you do with a pen, a calendar, and a map?
What will you do?

starting line

But it has to be good before I start, right?

I don’t want to disappoint anyone.

I can’t release poor work.  I can’t let “half way there” be seen.  My words have to be perfect.  My content has to be flawless.  My ideas have to be complete.  I must begin at expert level.

My first work has to be my best work.

Isn’t that ridiculous?

At one point Michael Jordan learned how to dribble a basketball.  At one point, Eric Clapton was taught how to hold a guitar.  At one point, Google looked like this

Everyone must start somewhere.  Everyone must start.

So go start!  Go make mistakes, misspell words, butcher jokes, break prototypes.  Go be awful!

After all, better to be dreadful today, (when your audience is small), than when you are expected to produce great work.

Something down on paper is always better than the idea that stays in your head.

Remember Today:  JUST START!

I am Restless

“Restless”

I am the sea on a moonless night,
Calling, falling, slipping tides
I am the leaky, dripping pipes
The endless aching drops of light
I am the raindrop falling down,
Always longing for the deeper ground
I am the broken, breaking seas
Even my blood finds ways to bleed

Even the rivers ways to run
Even the rain to reach the sun
Even my thirsty streams,
Even in my dreams

I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I’m looking for you

I am the thorn stuck in your side,
I am the one that you left behind,
I am the dried up doubting eyes
Looking for the well that won’t run dry

Running hard for the other side
The world that I’ve always been denied
Running hard for the infinite
With the tears of the saints and hypocrites

Oh blood of black and white and gray
Death and life and night and day
One by one by one
We let our rivers run

I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
Looking for you

I can hear you breathing,
I can hear you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
’til the final healing
I’m looking for you

Until the sea of glass we meet
At last completed and complete
The tide of tear and pain subside
Laughter drinks them dry

I’ll be waiting
Anticipating
All that I aim for
What I was made for
With every heartbeat
All of my blood bleeds
Running inside me
Looking for you

I am restless, I am restless
I am restless, looking for you
I am restless, I run like the ocean to find your shore
I’m looking for you

I can feel you breathing
I can feel you leading
More than just a feeling
More than just a feeling
I can feel you reaching
Pushing through the ceiling
’til the final healing
I’m looking for you
I’m looking for you

-unquiet or uneasy, as a person, the mind, or the heart.

-never at rest; perpetually agitated or in motion

-unceasingly active; averse to quiet or inaction

Have you ever been restless?  What caused you to be restless?

Maybe it was a cancer diagnosis.

Maybe it was a spouse getting a little too close to the word “divorce.”

Maybe you hate your job.

Maybe you have no job.

Maybe it kept you up at night.

Maybe you ate a little healthier.

Maybe you began exercising.

Maybe you began to pray.

Being restless is not necessarily a negative adjective.

Restlessness is a catalyst for change.

Restlessness caused the Puritans to set sail for America.  Restlessness brought on the Civil Rights Movement.   Restlessness invented the iPad.  Restlessness sparked the Reformation.

What are you restless about today?  What can you change about yourself to invoke a revolution?

Seek out something to be restless about.  If you cease to be restless, you cease improving yourself and others.

What are you restless about right now?
